Kaioh Michiru is a 16-year-old, first-year high school student (grade 10) at the elite Mugen Gakuen.
Michiru is also the reincarnation of Sailor Neptune
(
セーラーネプチューン),
the soldier of embrace. Her task, as one of the Sailor Senshi of the Outer Solar System ("Outer Senshi"),
is to protect the galaxy from outside invaders. In this lifetime, she is partnered with Sailor Uranus,
a.k.a. Tenoh Haruka.
Generally reserved, polite, and elegant, Michiru is a lady through and through, exuding a quiet
maturity, beauty, and grace beyond her age. She acts and appears like an adult, and she is the
picture of sophistication. She is also talented - she is a reknowned violinist; a famous painter
(in the anime only); and an excellent swimmer. Whereas her partner is more outspoken and brash,
Michiru tends to be more considerate, kind, and tactful, especially in the manga, where she seems
a lot gentler. In the anime, she is particularly kind when it comes to younger girls, of whom
she is fond, thinking them to be "cute." In both the anime and manga, she has an obvious maternal
streak. At times, however, her competitive nature can cause her to be harsh, and in the manga,
she can be vain and have a scary temper. In the anime, she is a bit of a flirt, but mostly just
with Haruka. Despite her seemingly quiet nature, however, she is just as driven as her partner.
As Sailor Neptune, she will do whatever it takes to fulfill her mission, even at the cost of her
own life. She can be cold and ruthless when necessary, even though in the anime, she tends to be
more open than Uranus regarding her doubts about her actions.
- Mirror: Neptune's Talisman. It is called the Deep Aqua Mirror in the both the manga
and the anime, but the manga also calls it the Submarine Mirror.
- Henshin stick: Anime only. This permits Michiru to transform into Sailor Neptune.
- Communication Watch: Anime only. This allows her to communicate with Haruka over long
distances.
- Kaiou Maru: Manga only. The name of Michiru's helicopter.
- Neptune Crystal: Manga only. Allows Michiru to transform into Super Sailor Neptune.
- Triton Castle: Manga only. Neptune's castle, given to her by Queen Serenity.
- Guardian Neptune: Manga only. Princess Neptune's Sailor Power Guardian.
- Violin: Not only for Michiru to play, but also used for attacks in the manga. Its name
in the manga is the Marine Cathedral.
- Sailor Neptune: Neptune's original form.
- Super Sailor Neptune: Neptune's second form. Appears in the Infinity arc of the
manga, the Dream arc of the manga, and the SailorStars anime.
- Unnamed Final Form: Manga only. Presumably called Eternal Sailor Neptune. Appears in
the Dream and SailorStars arcs of the manga.
- Princess Neptune: Manga only. In her past life, Michiru was the sailor princess of the
planet Neptune. Appears in the Dream arc.
