Prologue
Cowboy Bebop is an anime series that has a little bit of everything: action, comedy, drama, parody, some romance, and more. Set in 2071, it's also futuristic: Earth has mostly been abandoned, space travel is common, the planets have been colonized. Many aspects of contemporary culture, though, continue to linger and thrive.

Cowboy Bebop focuses on Spike Spiegal and his companions- Jet Black, Faye Valentine, Ed, and Ein- who make their living as bounty hunters by catching outlaws. Besides showing the characters' present lives, the story also explores their hidden, complicated pasts and how their previous experiences have shaped, and continue to affect, their current lives and personalities.

The series is twenty-six episodes long. The movie was made after the TV series, but chronologically, Knockin' on Heaven's Door takes place between episodes 22 and 23. However, to fully appreciate the movie and its timeframe, it should be seen after watching the entire TV series.

The movie begins as another typical day chasing after criminals on Mars; but when a tanker explosion infects people with a mysterious illness, an enormous bounty is placed on the unknown terrorist who caused it, and the Bebop crew decides to go after the mystery man themselves.
